10 POWERFUL Lessons From The 10-Years-Challenge Trend
I enjoyed the "unashamedness" that came with the #10YearsChallenge that trended last week. It is rather unfortunate that many "matured" evil spirits were trying so hard to distorted it.
It
is absolutely refreshing for people to own their "Unfiltered self" It
elicited laughter, gratefulness, nolstagia and many emotions.
Now,
apart from some of us that are vampires, many people have really
changed. Scratch that, evolved. Personally, while I haven't changed much
in looks because Mama's genes is blacks don't crack. The journey to get
my own photo from 2009 was such an eye opener.
Damn! I am so different that I am thankful I didn't marry, have a career, lead people or procreate... I was a mess!
I typed like a retard, was judgmental, was close minded
I was very afraid to express myself
At the time, I needed useless validations from boys
I was ashamed.
Not anymore.
Today, a lot has changed and I believe it is the same for you.
Here are 10 Lessons I gleaned from that trend and hashtag.
Change is Constant
I
have realised that whatever is causing you worry or pain right now
won't cause you worry and pain forever. Time heals. Things change. It
will pass.
Many people are overwhelmed with issues at the point that it is happening that they believe it will never ease up.
Oh
well, many who participated in the 10 years challenge has issues at the
time they thought would kill them but they are here 10 years later.
Also remaining stagnant is in opposition to the natural order of life.
Flow with change. Embrace it and regard it as an adventure.
Know Thyself
That
is a powerful message from the 10YearsChallenge Hashtag. Pleasing
others for approval and acceptance might feel good in the short term,
but eventually, you will lose yourself and feel resentful.
Know
yourself, please yourself first and give to others based on conscious
choice. Do not do it because you desire for approval or feelings of
guilt.
A Good Phone Camera is Priceless.
On
a funny note. Most phones during 2009 had very small camera capacity.
While we realised during the challenge that some people are actually
vampires. LOL. They didn't change at all. At least physically. They were
radiant in the recent pictures.
A good camera brought a lot of light and beauty to their personality. Yes!
Poverty Makes People Black
Another
very important realisation was skin tones. Most people have brightened
up from 10 years ago and were not as “black” as they used to be.
Contrary
to vicious people, this is NOT because of primarily bleaching cream.
Most got better jobs, a higher source of livelihood, live well and take
better care of their bodies. And Look better!
Take Care of Your Body
You will still have it in 10 Years.
If
this #10YearsChallenge didn’t teach you anything, it should teach you
to take care of yourself. You cannot shed your skin or disown it.
Whereas you can change your job, clothes, house and even life partners,
you are stuck in your skin for life. You might as well stop treating it
like an afterthought.
Focus On Progress Not Perfection
The
10 Years Challenge emphasizes that instead of thinking about points,
focus on progress. Where you are now from where you were yesterday.
Notice how fear is an illusion
Most of the
things we fear never happen. Or if they do happen, they are rarely as
bad as we fear they will be. For most of us, fear is the worst thing
that will happen to us. Reality isn't as painful.
Live Now
Yes
there are things you do now that will impact the future but sometimes,
we keep waiting for that amazing thing to happen in the future that will
be the key to our happiness. But this is it. Your life is right now.
Life continues to be a series of right nows. So learn to love your life
right now, and you'll have an amazing life.
You aren't always right.
We
think we have the answers, know what's right and wrong, good and bad,
best for ourselves and other people. But we aren't always right. There's
always more than one version. There are many perspectives that are
valid. Keep yourself open to that truth.
Life is short. You should enjoy it. Don't make things serious that don't have to be.
Create more fun in your life. Don't worry about what other people think of your fun. Just enjoy it.
Relationships Rule.
At
the end of the day, what matters most are the people in our lives. Not
money or assets. In fact, time and money spent accumulating material
things will one day irritate you.
But people
will always have your back. Put them first every single day. Before
work. Before the computer. Before your hobbies. Treat family and friends
like they are your everything. Because they are. Friendships need time
and attention. They need to be prioritized not just in word but indeed.
Debt Is NOT Your Friend
Spend below your means. Save money. Wait until you can afford it. Live free.
Nothing is more draining and humiliating than being in debt.
Buying things you can't afford might give you a short-term buzz, but in the long run, it's extremely stressful.
Age is a Number
When
you're twenty you think fifty is old. When you're fifty, you feel
thirty. When you're seventy, fifty looks like adolescence.
Our
chronological age doesn't have to define us. Don't allow a number to
hold you back or prevent you from being the person you are inside. Just
be the person you are inside.
Irrespective of
your age, create experience. The pleasure and positive memories
afforded by great experiences far outweigh material things. If you're
trying to decide between the new sofa or the family trip, take the trip
every time.
Save and plan for new adventures and meaningful experiences. Don't just dream about them — make them happen.
